IISER, Pune believes that benefits of high-quality science education and infrastructure should not remain restricted to members of the institute.

As an attempt to spread the excitement of science and to make the expertise and facilities at IISER Pune available to the science and education community, we engage in several outreach activities. These encompass social outreach in the local community, capacity building of teachers, making and popularizing simple science toys, and effectively communicating scientific research through various media.

Maharashtra State Development of Educators and Enhancement in Delivery (MS-DEED) 

Programme is a close collaboration between IISER Pune and the Maharashtra State Faculty Development Academy (MSFDA) - Centre for Multi-disciplinary Curriculum & Pedagogy under the Department of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra.

The programme aims to engage in developing the professional capacity of teachers aligned with NEP 2020 through training faculty members of universities and colleges. Our focus is on integrating classrooms and labs with scientific teaching, active-inquiry-based learning and ‘low threshold high ceiling’ approaches with emphasis on teaching strategies by and for teachers.

IISER Pune started the MS-DEED programme in December 2021 and has conducted several Online and In-person workshops. Since its inception, many science and mathematics teachers and institutions have been reached through these workshops across all districts of Maharashtra State.

MSFDA Maharashtra

The Maharashtra State Faculty Development Academy (MSFDA) 

It is the Centre for Multi-disciplinary Curriculum & Pedagogy under the Department of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra.

The Government of Maharashtra has established Maharashtra State Faculty Development Academy (MSFDA) under Section 8 of Companies Act, 2013 to impart training to the faculty of Higher and Technical Education Institutions of Maharashtra.

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 specifies:
“13.1 - The most important factor in the success of higher education institutions is the quality and engagement of its faculty.”
“15.1.1 - Teacher education is vital in creating a pool of teachers that will shape the next generation. Teacher preparation is an activity that requires multidisciplinary perspectives and knowledge, formation of dispositions and values, and development of practice under the best mentors. Teachers must be grounded in Indian values, languages, knowledge, ethos, and traditions including tribal traditions, while also being well-versed in the latest advances in education and pedagogy.”

The Vision of MSFDA is "Transforming higher educational landscape, through continuos professional development of teachers in Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) of Maharashtra "
MSFDA is in a unique position to influence reforms in the higher education as envisaged by the NEP 2020 by engaging with and motivating the faculty. The focus of trainings and the USP of MSFDA is development of holistic learning and overall development as a human being. This will be critical for societal change.

UGC - HRDC, Sant Gadgebaba Amravati University Amravati

The objectives of the Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) are to enable newly appointed Lecturers to:

a) understand the significance of education in general, and higher education in particular, in the global and Indian contexts;

b) understand the linkages between education and economic and socio-economic and cultural development, with particular reference to the Indian polity where democracy, secularism and social equity are the basic tenets of society;

c) acquire and improve art of teaching at the college/university level to achieve goals of higher education;

d) keep abreast of the latest developments in their specific subjects;

e) understand the organization and management of a college/university and to perceive the role of teachers in the total system;

f) utilize opportunities for development of personality, initiative and creativity; and

g) promote computer literacy as well use of ICT in teaching and learning process.
