“Chemistry in Daily Life: From Campus Creativity to School Outreach”

- To encourage students to share scientific knowledge with school children.

Activity Report:
The activity was organised under the guidance of Dr. G. V. Korpe, Principal, and Dr. P. R. Mandlik, Head, Department of Chemistry. The programme was conducted with the support of Dr. D. D. Khedkar, DBT Coordinator, and Dr. N. H. Bansod, Departmental DBT Coordinator. The activity was coordinated by Dr. Nilima A. Kalambe and Dr. Rakhi D. Bankar, Activity In-charges. The Department of Chemistry, Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati, organised a DBT STAR College activity on “Chemistry in Daily Life: From Campus Creativity to School Outreach.” The activity consisted of a Poster Making Competition followed by a School Outreach Programme.
The programme aimed to develop scientific creativity and communication skills among B.Sc. students and to create awareness about the applications of chemistry in everyday life among school children. The posters were evaluated by Dr. Pankaj Khirade, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics. The evaluation was based on scientific content, creativity, relevance, presentation, neatness and clarity.
First Prize, Second Prize, Third Prize and Consolation Prizes were awarded to the deserving students.
Certificates were awarded to all 40 participating students in recognition of their active participation in the Poster Making Competition. The students securing First, Second and Third Rank, along with the Consolation Prize winners, were felicitated with prizes and certificates. The selected posters were subsequently presented at Sharadha Kanya Mahavidyalaya and International Shanti Niketan School.
The B.Sc. students presented and explained their posters to the school children in simple language. They explained the practical applications of chemistry in food, health, household products and environmental protection.
The school children actively observed the posters, interacted with the college students and showed interest in learning about chemistry through everyday examples.
Outcomes:
- Engaged 40 B.Sc. students in a scientific and creative activity.
- Developed creativity and scientific thinking
- Improved students' presentation and communication skills.
- Increased confidence in explaining scientific concepts.
- Created awareness about chemistry among school children
