Activity Report:
Department of Environmental Science successfully organized a seminar competition on the occasion of National Science Day to celebrate the remarkable contributions of women in science and to encourage scientific thinking among students. The theme of the competition was “Women in Science – Catalyzing Viksit Bharat”, highlighting the vital role of women scientists in the development of a progressive and self-reliant India.
The programme began with a brief introduction about the importance of National Science Day, which is celebrated every year on 28th February to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect by C. V. Raman. The objective of organizing the seminar competition was to inspire students to learn about the achievements of women scientists and to promote interest in science and research.
Students from undergraduate classes enthusiastically participated in the competition and presented seminars on various topics related to the theme. The presentations covered inspiring contributions of renowned women scientists such as Kalpana Chawla, Tessy Thomas, and Janaki Ammal, as well as discussions on the importance of women's participation in scientific research and innovation for building a developed nation.
Participants presented their ideas with the help of charts and PowerPoint presentations. The judges evaluated the participants based on content, presentation skills, confidence, and relevance to the theme. The competition provided a platform for students to express their views, enhance their communication skills, and deepen their understanding of the role of women in scientific advancement.
The programme concluded with the announcement of winners and distribution of certificates. The organizing committee appreciated the enthusiastic participation of students and encouraged them to continue exploring scientific ideas and innovations.
Overall, the seminar competition was informative and inspiring. It successfully highlighted the contributions of women in science and motivated students to contribute towards the vision of Viksit Bharat through scientific knowledge and innovation.
