Activity Report:
Tigers are a conservation dependent species whose populations continue to be threatened by poaching driven by illegal international demand for tiger parts and products, depletion of tiger prey, habitat loss and conflict with people.
International Tiger Day helps to raise global awareness about the conservation of tigers and the immediate threat on their habitats. It inspires making efforts for community involvement, Tanzania anti-poaching, and habitat conservation to ensure a life for these majestic creatures while celebrating the tiger as an essential part of biodiversity.
Keeping in mind the importance and the essentiality of tiger conservation as well as spread of knowledge about Tiger, Department of Zoology, Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati has celebrated the International Tiger Day-2025 on 30th July 2025 in the presence of Teaching and Non- Teaching staff and the student participants.
The theme of 2025 International Tiger Day was “Theme- Harmonious Coexistence between Humans and Tigers”, keeping that in mind, Zoology department organized “Tiger pe Charcha” and selected the following five sub-topics:
1. Human-Tiger Conflict
2. Threats to Tiger & its Habitat
3. Role of Habitat & Corridors in Tiger Sustainance
4. Tiger Conservation
5. Role of AI to reduce Human-Wildlife Conflict
Aims & Objectives of the activity:
1. To generate awareness among budding students.
2. To generate knowledge about habitat protection.
3. To support conservative initiatives by promoting conservation program.
4. To spread awareness about illegal wildlife trade
5. To educate and engage younger generations about Human –tiger Conflict.
Students were instructed to prepare a 5 minute talk on the topics provided. Out of 15 registered students 10 students expressed their views related to the topics for the charcha. This program was conducted by Dr. A. R. Rajoria in presence of the teaching, non-teaching as well as students participants. The guest for this activity was Mr. Advait Kevale, working in Melghat Tiger Reserve. Mr. Advait Kevale was welcomed by hands of Dr. J. D. Dhote and Dr. G. A. Wagh and then the charcha started. Participants talked about how they feel about Tiger, their conservation, habitat, human tiger conflict etc. Their views were carefully assessed by the experts and given points accordingly out of 20 marks total.
Pratha Tiwari, B.Sc. I, Major Zoology bagged the first prize, followed by Shrawari Rothe, B. Sc. III got second prize and Tanishka Bele, B.Sc. I, Major Zoology received third prize.
After, the charcha, Mr. Advait Kevale started with his talk. He gave self experience in the field about tiger behavior, its habitat and the techniques use by poachers.
The program was successfully organized and conducted by Dr. A. R. Rajoria, Assistant Professor and Activity Incharge under the guidance and support of Dr. J. D. Dhote, Professor and Head; Dr. G. A. Wagh, Professor and Department DBT Coordinator with direct and indirect help from teaching faculty- Dr. G. D. Hande, Dr. S. V. Gawande, Dr. P. M. Ramteke and Dr. S. J. Kawade and Non- teaching faculty of Zoology- Mr. M. S. Gawai; Ms. S. R. Mankar; Mr. P. R. Ghurde, Mr. M. S. Solanke.
