Activity Report:

Industrial visits were organized by Department of Environmental Science for the students on 10th September to provide practical exposure to real-world industrial processes, manufacturing workflows, and sustainable technologies. The visit included three different industries: Nankani Paper Industry, where plain paper is converted into graph sheets and notebooks; Econiture Plastic Recycling Industry, which converts plastic waste into durable furniture and products; and ECE Solar Panel Industry, where solar panels are assembled from individual components. The objective of the visit was to understand production processes, quality control measures, safety practices, and the role of industries in environmental protection.
I. Visit to Nankani Paper Industry
Overview of the Industry: Nankani Paper Industry is engaged in the production of various paper-based products, primarily graph papers, notebooks, registers, drawing sheets, and customized stationery items. The industry receives plain paper sheets or reels from paper mills and further processes them into finished educational and commercial products.
Manufacturing Process
1. Paper Cutting:
Large plain sheets or paper rolls are cut into required sizes using automatic cutting machines.
2. Printing Process:
o Graph lines, ruled patterns, margins, and customized formats are printed using offset printing machines.
o Ink quality and alignment are checked to ensure clarity.
3. Drying and Quality Checking:
Printed sheets pass through drying units and are inspected for printing accuracy, color uniformity, and defects.
4. Folding and Gathering:
Sheets are folded and arranged into proper order for notebook or register preparation.
5. Binding:
o Binding is done using stitching machines, spiral binding, or perfect binding depending on the product.
o Covers are added during this stage.
6. Final Trimming and Packaging:
Finished products are trimmed for neat edges and packed in bundles for dispatch.
II. Visit to Econiture Plastic Recycling Industry
Overview of the Industry: Econiture is a sustainable enterprise focused on plastic waste management and recycling. The industry collects plastic waste from municipal sources, and scrap dealers, and converts it into eco-friendly products such as chairs, benches, tables, flower pots, tiles, dustbins, and decorative items.
Recycling and Production Process
1. Collection and Segregation:
Waste plastic (HDPE, LDPE, PP, etc.) is collected and segregated based on type, colour, and quality.
2. Cleaning and Shredding:
Plastics are washed to remove dirt and impurities, dried, and then shredded into small flakes using shredder machin.
3. Extrusion Process:
Shredded plastic is melted in an extruder at controlled temperatures and converted into plastic strips or pellets.
4. Moulding and Shaping:
o Plastic material is fed into moulds to prepare planks, boards, or product components.
o Molds are cooled and shapes are removed.
5. Assembly of Furniture:
The prepared boards are used to assemble chairs, tables, stools, and other furniture items.
6. Finishing and Quality Check:
Painting, polishing, drilling, or cutting is done based on product requirement.
III. Visit to ECE Solar Panel Industry
Overview of the Industry:ECE Solar Panel Industry is engaged in the assembly and production of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels. The industry importsolar cells, glass sheets, aluminium frames, junction boxes, and wiring components separately and assembles them into fully functional solar panels.
Solar Panel Assembly Process
1. Solar Cell Arrangement:
Individual solar cells are arranged in series and parallel combinations to achieve desired voltage and wattage.
2. Tabbing and Stringing:
Cells are connected using conductive ribbons through soldering to form “cell strings.”
3. Lamination:
o The cell strings are sandwiched between EVA sheets, a backsheet, and a protective tempered glass.
o This stack is placed in a laminator where vacuum and heat seal the layers permanently.
4. Framing:
Laminated panels are fitted into aluminium frames for structural strength.
5. Junction Box Installation:
Junction boxes with bypass diodes are attached at the back for electrical connections.
6. Testing and Quality Control:
Panels undergo testing such as flash testing, insulation resistance testing, and durability assessment.
7. Packaging:
Panels are cleaned, labelled, and packaged for dispatch to customers or solar project sites.
