A Slogan Competition & Poster Competition for UG/PG Students from Department of Life Sciences was organized by the Department of Zoology, Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati in Collaboration with Melghat Tiger Reserve (MTR) on 04 October, 2025 from 3.00 pm – 5.30 pm.
The Slogan and Poster competition aimed to provide a platform for the students to give an insight on protecting and Preserving species, habitats, and ecosystem through compelling images and slogans of animals and their habitats and creating awareness among students and youth, regarding need of volunteering for conservation efforts, thus providing a Scientific Attitude, Creativity & Skills for biodiversity conservation.
Keeping this in mind the sub-Themes of the Competition was:
• Wildlife and its habitat Conservation
• Biodiversity Conservation
• Community based wildlife Conservation
• Financial Mobilization for Wildlife
• Youth Contribution in Wildlife Conservation
Target Group: UG/PG Students of Life Sciences Department. A total 36 Participants were present as participants.
The Slogan and Poster Competition started at 3.00 pm at the UG Zoology Laboratory, Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati. The Competition began by an Inaugural Function from 3.00-3.30 pm where Dr Prashant Mandlik, Professor and Head, Department of Chemistry and Dr Mukul Bhonde, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Computer Science, Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati were present as the judges of the Competition. The Inaugural Function was Presided by Dr Prashant Mandlik, Professor and Head Department of Chemistry, Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati. He guided all the participants of the Competition by encouraging the use of these Drawing and Slogan writing tools for showing an image for Creating awareness for Biodiversity and Wildlife Conservation. The Competition was inaugurated by Dr Mukul Bhonde, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Computer Science, Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati, where he spoke on the fruitfulness for organizing such competition for college students and passing the same message of wildlife conservation into the Society. Dr Gajanan Wagh, Professor and Departmental DBT Project Coordinator, gave an Introductory Speech about the both the Competitions, also spoke a few words about the importance of organizing such Competitions and also on the progress made by the departmental students under the facilities and the programs conducted under DBT Star Project Scheme. He also talked on the progress made by the department and the amenities present at the department.
The Program was conducted by Dr Sujata Kawade, Assistant Professor & Activity In-Charge, Department of Zoology, Shri Shivaji Science College Amravati who also gave a short Introduction of both the Judges.
The Poster Competition started at 3.30 pm and was Judged by Dr Prashant Mandlik. A total Students had made posters according to the theme and the sub theme that was suggested. The posters were handcrafted by the students with headline, images, body text and call to action for Biodiversity conservation. The poster prepared by the students reflected powerful photos of endangered animals in their natural habitats, contrasting images of pristine nature versus a polluted one. A few posters showed interconnectedness of ecosystem by including various animals and plant species and their environment. Also, some posters created a powerful visual showing the negative impact of human actions on wildlife and how conservation can reserve it.
The Slogan Competition was Judged by Dr Mukul Bhonde. A total Students participated in the Slogan Competition. The slogans prepared by the students were in accordance of the theme and the sub theme suggested and were future focused, Action oriented, Direct and Impactful. Protecting wildlife is crucial for ecological balance, ensuring biodiversity for future generations. Effective slogans include "Protect Wildlife, Preserve Life," "Be Kind to Every Kind," and "Extinction is Forever". Posters often feature animal silhouettes, split images of healthy vs. destroyed habitats, or vivid, emotional imagery focusing on saving endangered species. A Few Poster Ideas and Concepts reflected The "Split View": A poster divided down the middle, one side showing a lush green jungle and the other a barren, deforested landscape with the text, "Don't Let This Be Their Future". "Behind Bars": An image of a, wild animal (like a tiger or elephant) trapped in a cage, captioned with "Cage the animals who cage the animals." "Camera over Guns": A photo of a photographer focusing on an animal, with the slogan, "Don't Shoot with Guns, Shoot with cameras". The "Last One": A powerful graphic showing only one member of a species (e.g., a panda) with the text, "Last One Standing?". "Eco-Action": A poster showing a hand planting a tree, with the slogan "Plant a tree, save a life." Key Themes for Poster makers were on Habitat Loss: Focused on deforestation and ocean pollution (e.g., a turtle swimming in plastic). Poaching: Highlighting the cruelty of hunting for skin, tusk, or sport. Balance: Emphasizing that every species matters for the ecosystem's survival. Action: Encouraging individuals to save wildlife through small actions, like recycling or reducing, reusing, and recycling.
Protecting wildlife is crucial for environmental balance. Powerful slogans include "Live and Let Live," "Extinction is Forever, Conservation is Now," and "Save Wildlife, Secure Our Future." These catchphrases, often used in conservation, aim to stop cruelty and protect natural habitats. Be kind to every kind. Protect wildlife, preserve life. Act now, save animals. were the target themes.
The Key message that was passed to the students by organizing this Slogan and Poter Competition was Maintaining an Ecosystem Balance, Biodiversity Conservation, Sustainability and call to Action and carry the same message to the society.
Tea-Snacks were arranged at 4.15 pm for the teachers and the student participants at the Competition.
3 best posters and 3 best Slogans were judged and were given prizes by the judges.
A short Valedictory function was conducted from 5.00-5.15 pm by giving Vote of Thanks.
