Date: 19 September, 2025

An Online Guest Lecture on “Research Methodology and Scientific Writing” for UG Students and Teaching staff from Department of Life Sciences was organized by the Department of Zoology, Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati on 19 September, 2025 from 3.30 pm – 5.30 pm.
The Guest Lecture aimed to provide a platform to give an insight on Literature Review: Identifying research areas, Various referencing procedures, Data Collection: Software tools for modelling, Simulation and Analysis, Paper Publication: Different steps and Software tools in design and preparation and Developing research proposals for research work thus providing a Scientific Attitude, Creativity & Skills for Scientific Writing to the UG Students and Teaching Staff from the department of Life Sciences.
Target Group: UG Students and Teaching staff of Life Sciences Department. A total 97 Participants were present to attend the Lecture.
The Guest Lecture was conducted on Zoom Meeting platform and started at 3.30 pm, the student participants were seated at the AV Theatre Hall, Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati. The Lecture began by an online Inaugural Function where the speaker for the Guest lecture Dr Shrihari Ashok Pingle, Associate Professor, Dept of Zoology, Sangamner Nagarpalika Arts, D.J. Malpani and B.N. Sarda Science College, Sangamner, Maharashtra & Mentor, DBT Star College Scheme, Government of India were to deliver the lecture in online mode. The Inaugural Function was Presided by Dr Jayashree Dhote, Professor and Head Department of Zoology, Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati. She guided all the participants in the workshop by encouraging the use of these Research tools while thesis writing and Academic writing by streamlining tasks like creating documents, managing data, and presenting information effectively. She Spoke on the use of these tools for paper publication and thesis writing for the Research Students also be helpful for the Teaching staff for Academic uses. She also talked on the progress made by the department and the amenities present at the department and also on the importance of the current topic of Scientific writing and research Publication in the field of NEP Curriculum. The Guest lecture was inaugurated by Dr Dinesh Khedkar, Professor and Head, Department of Botany, Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati where he spoke on the applications of these Research tools for the beginner students of UG for productivity, offering a range of applications for various tasks. Dr Gajanan Wagh, Professor and Departmental DBT Project Co-ordinator, gave an Introductory Speech about the both the Technical Sessions, also spoke a few words about the importance of organizing such a guest lecture and also on the progress made by the departmental students under the facilities and the programs conducted under DBT Star Project Scheme.
The Program was conducted by Dr Sujata Kawade, Assistant Professor & Activity In-Charge, Department of Zoology, Shri Shivaji Science College Amravati who also gave a short Introduction of the speaker.
Technical session I of the Guest lecture started at 3.45 pm on Literature Review: Identifying research areas from literature review. Identifying research areas through a literature review involves systematically searching, analyzing, and synthesizing existing academic work to find gaps, inconsistencies, or emerging trends. Key techniques include mapping literature, identifying unanswered questions in discussion sections, focusing on recent studies, and exploring methodological, population, or knowledge gaps through Various referencing procedures. Also the topic of Data Collection: Software tools for modelling, Simulation and Analysis was covered during this session. Software tools for data collection, modeling, simulation, and analysis include comprehensive platforms like MATLAB/Simulink and Anylogic for multi-method modeling, ANSYS and COMSOL for engineering physics, and Python/R for custom analysis. Key tools also include Tableau and Excel for visualization, with SQL Database Modeler and erwin for data structure design. The renowned Speaker spoke on identifying the Research gap, Finding a research gap involves identifying unexplored, contradictory, or outdated areas in existing literature by reviewing recent papers (last 3-5 years) and analyzing their limitations or future direction sections. Techniques include searching for "little is known about," using AI tools like ResearchRabbit or Litmaps for visual mapping, and focusing on new methodologies or under-studied populations degree of work already done on the research Topic, Importance of Bibliography and Referencing procedure for research work. He also gave an idea on the various Data Collection Softwares Data collection software streamlines gathering information from various sources, replacing paper-based methods with digital forms, mobile apps, and automated tools for improved accuracy and efficiency. Top tools include Fulcrum (field surveys), Jotform (form building), KoboToolbox (free/humanitarian), ODK (offline field data), and Google Forms (simple surveys). These solutions often support offline functionality, GPS tracking, and real-time data analysis., Data analysis Softwares, Simulation Softwares, How to choose the right Tool and the emerging trends in Data Collection Emerging data collection trends focus on automation, AI-driven synthesis, and edge computing to handle massive, complex datasets in real time. Key shifts include the use of synthetic data, IoT integration, and heightened privacy regulations that prioritize security and consumer trust we studied. Referencing procedures involve acknowledging sources through in-text citations and a corresponding reference list to avoid plagiarism and ensure academic integrity. The three main systems are Author-Date (e.g., Harvard, APA), Numeric (e.g., Vancouver, IEEE), and Notes-Bibliography (e.g., Chicago, MHRA/Oxford) were studied.
Tea-Snacks were arranged at the running technical sessions for the teachers and the student participants at the Lecture.
Technical Session II started at 4.30 pm where the Speaker spoke on the Steps in Research Paper Publication, manuscript preparation and Formatting, Appropriate journal Selection and Submission and Peer Review and Revision Strategies of various journals and also an information on the predatory Journals.
A complete information on the topic of Research methodology and Scientific Writing was demonstrated effectively in both the technical sessions.
A short Valedictory function was conducted from 5.30-5.45 pm by giving Vote of Thanks.
