Activity Report:
Field visit program for undergraduate students was organized on 30/9/2025 at Semadoh, Melghat Tiger Reserve undergraduate students on Faunal Diversity Assessments & on field demonstration. This visit was organized and conducted by Department of Zoology and catalyzed by DBT Star Project Scheme 2024 and as per university curriculum.
On 30th September, 2025, 34 Students accompanied with 3 teaching and non-teaching staff proceed for the destination at 7.30am from college campus to Semadoh, Melghat. Following are the Aims, Objectives and outcomes of the visit:
Aims and Objectives:
1. An introduction about Melghat Tiger Reserve Habitat.
2. To inform students about different biodiversity survey techniques
3. To demonstrate the different on field survey techniques.
4. To engage students in on field biodiversity collection techniques.
5. To inform students about different biodiversity documentation techniques.
Outcomes:
6. Students acquiring deeper knowledge about Melghat Tiger Reserve Habitat.
7. Students will learn how to collect data on animal populations using methods like transect surveys, quadrant sampling etc.
8. Students should be introduced to techniques such as mark-recapture, pitfall traps, mist nets, and direct observation for surveying different animal groups.
9. Students will learn the importance of accurate field notes and the use of digital tools (such as GIS software, photography, or spreadsheets) to document survey data.
10. Students should understand how biodiversity surveys contribute to conservation efforts and the management of protected areas or species.
Glimpses of the field visit program on "Faunal Diversity Assessment Techniques & on Field Demonstration" organised by Department of Zoology under DBT Star Project Scheme on 30/9/2025 at
After reaching Semadoh at 11.30am, inauguration of the on field training workshop "Faunal Diversity Assessment Techniques & on Field Demonstration" started sharply at 12 noon in presence of Shri. Manoj Belsare, Field Guard, Semadoh, Dr. G. A. Wagh, Prof. & Dept. DBT Star Project Coordinator, Dr. A. R. Rajoria, Asstt. Professor and Activity Incharge with Mr. Mangesh Solanke, Mr. Pratik Chaudhary, Research Scholar and undergraduate student participants.
After the floral welcome of all the dignitaries, Dr. Wagh addressed the participants about the workshop through his introductory speech followed by Shri. Manoj Belsare, Field Guard, Semadoh, address. He informed the student participants about the basics of the forest and their indigenous flora and fauna. After Mr. Belsare’s address, Dr. Wagh and Dr. Rajoria, demonstrated photography techniques as well as on field methodologies for collection of invertebrate fauna respectively.
All the student participants and the accompanied staff took the lunch in the semadoh campus and then all of us moved to explore the relocated village of semadoh. This visit at Semadoh (Relocated Pili village in core area), Melghat Tiger Reserve was facilitated in the presence of Shri. Pradip Talkhandkar, RO, Semadoh with Shri. Manoj Belsare, Field Guard, Semadoh and the students trailed the whole area and the guard of the Pili village, also informed the students that the vegetation of this village is predominantly occupied with grass species. The trail lasted for around 2 hours and after that Dr. G. A. Wagh, Prof. & Departmental DBT Coordinator and Dr. A. R. Rajoria, Activity Incharge with Sh. Mangesh Solanke, supporting staff, Mr. Pratik Chaudhary, Research Scholar and B. Sc. III year students moved to the rest house for refreshment and then departed for Amravati.
At around 7.30pm, all the students reached the college premises and dispersed from there. This field excursion proved to be a very fruitful and wildlife habitat exploring field activity for the students and was organized and conducted under the guidance of Dr. J. D. Dhote, Prof. & Head, Department of Zoology and Dr. G. A. Wagh, Prof. & Departmental DBT Coordinator, Dr. A. R. Rajoria, Asstt. Prof. & Activity Incharge and teaching and non-teaching staff of department of Zoology.
