Activity Report:

Pakshi saptah (Bird week) was celebrated by department of Zoology, Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati on 8th November 2025 in the presence of Teaching and Non- Teaching staff and the student participants under DBT Star project scheme 2024 in collaboration of Maharashtra Pakshimitra and Wildlife & Environment Society, Amravati (WECS).
This activity was inaugurated in presence of Mr. Sharad Apte, renowned Bird watcher from Maharashtra. After inauguration, Mr. Apte gave guest lecture to the students and shared his work experience with the students. He recorded a number of bird calls and told the significance of different calls made by birds. A number of birds also mimic the calling of other predator species if they feel threatened or a mechanism of defense.
Students got actively motivated and interacted with Mr. Apte and cleared their doubts also.
Dr. G. A. Wagh, Prof. & Department DBT Coordinator and Secretary of Maharashtra Pakshimitra and WECS, addressed the participants about the birds, their behavior, habitat and need for their conservation through his powerpoint presentation.
The activity was organized focusing mainly on the following aims and objectives.
Aims & Objectives of the activity:

1. To generate awareness among budding students about bird conservation.
2. To encourage appreciation for nature and biodiversity.
3. To support conservative activities like bird watching excursion.
4. To encourage community engagement and eco-tourism.
5. To educate and engage younger generations in scientific documentation and addressing specific threats to birds.

Outcomes:
1. Students acquired deeper knowledge about conservation of bird.
2. Students motivated to participate in initiatives towards biodiversity conservation.
3. Students were encouraged to support conservative initiatives by promoting conservation program
4. Students got information about illegal wildlife trade of animal and its products.
5. Students learned about specific threats to birds and their habitat.

The program was successfully organized and conducted by Dr. A. R. Rajoria, Assistant Professor and Activity Incharge under the guidance and support of Dr. J. D. Dhote, Professor and Head; Dr. G. A. Wagh, Professor and Department DBT Coordinator with direct and indirect help from teaching faculty- Dr. G. D. Hande, Dr. S. V. Gawande, Dr. P. M. Ramteke and Dr. S. J. Kawade and Non- teaching faculty of Zoology- Mr. M. S. Gawai; Ms. S. R. Mankar; Mr. P. R. Ghurde, Mr. M. S. Solanke.
