Department of Botany, Vinayak Vidnyan Mahavidyalaya, Nandgaon Khandeshwar in collaboration with Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati (Under DBT Star College Scheme) Shri Shivaji College of Horticulture, Amravati had organized fifteen days certificate course under the title of “Floralpreneur-Online Certificate Course in Floral Design & Entrepreneurship” for the senior college students. Certificate course was announced on 1st June 2025. Notice for the programme was circulated though social media like what’s app, Telegram etc.
The certificate course was started with inauguration, Dr. Suchita Khodke, Principal, Vinayak Vidnyan Mahavidyalaya, Nandgaon Khandeshwar gave introductory speech and overall schedule of fifteen days programme followed by the address of Dr. Dinesh Khedkar, Head Department of Botany, Shri. Shivaji Science College, Amravati. Formally inaugurated by the hands of Dr. Dhanshree Patil, Head, Department of Botany, Bar. Balasaheb Khardekar College, Vengurla, Kolhapur. Dr. C. M. Deshmukh, Principal of Shri Shivaji College of Horticulture, Amravati, delivered the presidential address, encouraging the participants to

take full advantage of the knowledge of designed sessions and such a well-structured certificate course, aimed at skill development and entrepreneurship in floristry and to consider floristry not just as an art, but as a viable professional path. The inaugural session was concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Swati Pundkar, Department of Botany, Shri. Shivaji Science College, Amravati.
Following major topics covered in certificate course
1) Introduction to Floristry
2) Types of flowers, leaves and foliage, fillers and containers.
3) Flower containers & button holes, equipment and tools required, conditioning cut flowers and foliage and basic elements of art in flower arrangement.
4) Floristry techniques, a hand-tied bouquet and making floral designs.
5) Types of flower arrangements,
6) Opening your own florist.
7) Career opportunities in the floral
8) Interview with Entrepreneur and practical demonstrations

During the 15-day certificate course in floristry, various experts delivered lectures and conducted practical sessions to provide in depth knowledge of floral design, arrangement, and the floristry business.
Day 1: Dr. Dhanashree Patil Head, Department of Botany, Bar. Balasaheb Khardekar College, Vengurla, Kolhapur delivered an introductory lecture on introduction floristry. She provided in-detailed information on various fundamentals of floristry, described most popular flowers, greens and fillers. She highlighted on how to recognize importances of flower colors, associations and symbolisms. She explained harvesting, processing and caring of flowers along with the understanding the skills needed for the floristry career. Additionally, she discussed how to identify parts, systems of plants and flowers, flower markets and flower management techniques.
Day 2: Dr. Suchita Khodke, Principal of Vinayak Vidya Mahavidyalaya, explained different types of flowers such as focal flowers, filler flowers, line flowers and greenery. She discussed in detailed the popular flowers size, color, shape and their uses with respect to make decorative bouquet. She also discussed some points to kept in mind while making the flower arrangement, cost-effective flower options available in the market and how to choose suitable flowers for arrangements.
Day 3: Dr. Namitha Sontakke gave a detailed lecture on the types of leaves and foliage used in bouquet decoration. She explained different leaf types line foliage can be used to make height and direction of bouquet, form foliage use to unique shape for the bouquet, mass foliage can use to cover the space and to provide solid background to bouquet and filler foliage to fill gaps and provide structure to bouquet. She also explained compact, long, and short—and their arrangement techniques. She also covered how various foliage enhances floral designs.
Day 4: Dr. Suchita Khodke and Dr. Namitha Sontakke, along with Mr. Shilanand Hiwarale, conducted an engaging and informative online practical session on flower arrangement. They
showcased a variety of live flowers, fillers, leaves, and foliage used in bouquet making. The session focused on identifying different floral materials and their roles in enhancing bouquet aesthetics. The live demonstration provided valuable insights and sparked creativity among the attendees, making it a highly interactive and educational experience.
Day 5: Dr. Swati Pundkar delivered an insightful and informative lecture on various aspects of flower arrangement. She discussed different types of flower containers such as glass, metal, stone, jute, and others, highlighting their suitability for specific arrangements. The session also covered buttonholes and small flower arrangements, emphasizing design techniques and creative presentation. Dr. Pundkar explained the tools and equipment required for bouquet preparation and shared effective methods for conditioning cut flowers and foliage to enhance their freshness and longevity.
Day 6: Dr. Sharmila Kubade delivered an enlightening lecture on the basic elements of art in flower arrangements. She effectively explained key artistic components such as line, form, color, texture, and space, and their role in enhancing floral designs. The session also covered various artistic styles and types of arrangements commonly used in bouquet making. Dr. Kubade’s clear and structured presentation helped participants understand how to apply these elements creatively and effectively in floral compositions. The lecture provided a strong foundation in the artistic principles essential for successful and visually appealing flower arrangements.
Day 7: The team, along with Mr. Shilanand Hiwarale, visited Aryan Flower Shop to observe professional florist techniques in a real-world setting. A live online demonstration was conducted directly from the shop, where the staff showcased the step-by-step process of bouquet preparation. Participants observed the creation of various types of bouquets, including hand-tied arrangements and other popular floral designs. The shop staff demonstrated the selection and arrangement of flowers, fillers, and foliage, providing practical insights into professional bouquet-making techniques. This interactive session offered valuable exposure to real-time floral artistry and enhanced the participants' understanding of commercial flower arrangement practices.
Day 8: Dr. Sanyogita Deshmukh delivered an informative lecture on the basic principles of flower design. She explained the fundamental concepts that contribute to creating balanced, decorative, and visually appealing floral arrangements. Key points such as proportion, balance, harmony, rhythm, and emphasis were thoroughly discussed, helping participants
understand how to apply these principles in bouquet making. Her clear explanations and practical examples provided a strong foundation for designing aesthetically pleasing flower arrangements, making the session both educational and inspiring for all attendees.
Day 9: Dr. Sheetal Dagwar conducted a lecture and live demonstration on different types of fresh flower arrangements. She provided a clear and comprehensive explanation of the fundamental principles that make fresh floral arrangements balanced, decorative, and visually engaging. Through an in-depth discussion of key elements such as proportion, balance, harmony, rhythm, and emphasis she guided participants in understanding how to effectively apply these concepts in bouquet design.
Day 10: Dr Sharmila Kubade mam give the lecture on types of flower arrangement and see also demonstrate the practical session on flower arrangement. During the session, students applied the concepts learned in the lectures, experimenting with different types of flowers, fillers, and foliage. Under expert guidance, they practiced techniques related to symmetry, layering, color coordination, and overall balance. The instructors demonstrated step-by-step methods for creating attractive and professional looking bouquets. Participants were encouraged to be creative while maintaining the fundamental principles of design such as proportion, harmony, and emphasis.
Day 11: Dr. Sheetal Dagwar and Mr. Shilanand Hiwarale organized an educational field trip for students to local flower markets, providing them with the opportunity to observe a wide variety of flowers, fillers, and foliage. During the visit, students gained valuable insights into the functioning of the flower market system, including sourcing, selection, and handling of floral materials. The trip also included hands-on training in floral arrangement, allowing students to apply their learning in a practical setting. This immersive experience greatly enhanced their understanding of floral design and the commercial aspects of the floristry industry.
Day 12: Mr. Shilanand Hiwarale delivered an insightful lecture on starting a florist business, offering detailed guidance on how to launch and manage a successful floristry enterprise. He covered key aspects such as business planning, sourcing materials, pricing strategies, marketing, and customer service. The session was enriched with real-life business scenarios, giving participants a practical understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the floristry industry. His lecture served as a valuable resource for aspiring entrepreneurs, providing them with the knowledge and confidence to start their own floral business.
Day 13: Dr. Rekha Maggirwar delivered an engaging session on career opportunities in the floral industry. She discussed the strategy “from farm to consumer” in which she explains some steps like cultivation, growers, maintenance, harvesting and post harvesting handlings, transportation and logistics, wholesalers and retailers and final consumers. She also discussed dynamics of the global floral market, effective marketing strategies, and the diverse career paths available within the industry. To inspire students, she shared success stories of prominent floral entrepreneurs, highlighting their journeys and achievements. The session provided valuable insights and motivation for students interested in pursuing careers in floristry and related fields.
Day 14: Dr. Gajendra Singh Pachlore, Dr. Rajiv Tayde, and Mr. Anand Hiwarale conducted an insightful interview with the owner of Aryan Flower Shop. During the discussion, they explored the challenges faced in running a flower business and examined various operational aspects such as inventory management, customer relations, and market competition. The interview provided valuable firsthand insights into the practical realities of managing a successful floristry enterprise.
Day 15: Dr. Namitha Sontakke conducted a theory examination along with a final mock test for the participants. The assessments covered the key topics taught throughout the course. The final test consisted of 30 compulsory questions, carrying a total of 50 marks, to evaluate the participants’ understanding and knowledge gained during the program. Throughout the program, students actively interacted with the resource persons, engaging in discussions on various topics. Several participants also provided feedback on the course.
The certificate course concluded with a valedictory session. Dr. Suchita Khodke delivered the vote of thanks, and the course was formally concluded with the permission of the program president. E-certificates were issued only to participants who scored at least 50% in the final mock test and submitted the feedback form.
