Two-Day Introductory Workshop on the Use of ExpEYES in Physics Laboratory
Dates: 29th & 30th September 2025
Venue: Department of Physics, Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati
Organized under: DBT STAR Project
Resource Person:
Mr. V. V. V. Satyanarayan Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC), New Delhi (Pioneer in development and promotion of ExpEYES)

The Department of Physics, Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati, organized a Two-Day Introductory Workshop on the Use of ExpEYES in Physics Laboratory on 29th and 30th September 2025, under the DBT STAR Project. The workshop was aimed at introducing physics teachers from colleges affiliated to Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati to ExpEYES (Experiments for Young Engineers and Scientists), an open-source, low-cost hardware and software tool developed at the Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC), New Delhi, under the PHOENIX project.
Inaugural Session
The inaugural program was held in the college AV Theatre. Principal Dr. G. V. Korpe presided over the function, while Dr. V. V. V. Satyanarayana (IUAC, New Delhi), a pioneer in the development and promotion of ExpEYES, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. Dr. P. A. Nagpure, Convener of the workshop, delivered the introductory speech, highlighting the motivation behind organizing the program and the relevance of technology-driven experiments in today’s educational context. The inaugural session was conducted by Dr. S. S. Arsad.
Participation
A total of 39 physics teachers from various colleges actively participated in the workshop. The participants represented different institutions under Shri Shivaji Education Society as well as other affiliated colleges of SGBAU, Amravati.
Workshop Highlights
The technical sessions across the two days included:
• Introductory lecture by Dr. V. V. V. Satyanarayana on the vision and scope of ExpEYES.
• Demonstration sessions covering the basic features and applications of the tool.
• Hands-on training sessions conducted in three parallel laboratories, where each participant had the opportunity to directly perform a number of experiments in mechanics, electricity, electronics, oscillations, sound, and sensor-based systems using ExpEYES.
• Design and coding sessions that introduced participants to customization of experiments through Python and visual coding.
• Feedback and discussion sessions, where teachers shared their experiences and offered suggestions for future programs.
During the hands-on sessions, participants individually performed and analyzed experiments such as the study of damping of a pendulum, time-of-flight method for determining acceleration due to gravity, V–I characteristics of diodes and transistors, electromagnetic induction, oscillator circuits, OP-AMP applications, sound and beats using buzzers, and measurements with various sensors. This direct involvement gave them valuable experience in conducting both classical and modern experiments using affordable, digital tools.
Valedictory Session
The workshop concluded with a valedictory function on 30th September 2025. Certificates were distributed to all participants. The participants expressed their appreciation for the systematic design of the program, particularly the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a large number of experiments. They acknowledged the practical utility of ExpEYES in making physics experiments more engaging, affordable, and student-friendly.
Outcome
The workshop successfully achieved its objectives of:
• Familiarizing teachers with ExpEYES as a versatile laboratory tool.
• Providing hands-on experience of performing numerous experiments across different domains of physics.
• Inspiring faculty members to adopt technology-driven experimentation in their own institutions.
The Department of Physics, Shri Shivaji Science College, expressed gratitude to Dr. V. V. V. Satyanarayana for his guidance, to the management of Shri Shivaji Education Society, Amravati and DBT for their support, and to all participants for their enthusiastic involvement.
