Activity Report:

The Department of Microbiology, Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati proudly organized a Science Quiz and Puzzle Challenge Competition on the theme “Scientific achievement of India and the world” on the occasion of National Science Day on 28.02.25 with enthusiastic participation from the Undergraduate and Postgratude students of Microbiology department. The students were distributed into two separate batches. The science Quiz and Puzzle Challenge Competition of first batch was held between 12.00-1.00 among the students of B.Sc-III and M.Sc-II of Microbiology department .The event aimed to promote scientific curiosity, critical thinking and analytical skills. It also helps students learn new things, and understand their strengths and weaknesses.
Participation:
In the first batch, the students of B.Sc-III and M.Sc-II from Microbiology department were participated in the competition. A total of 12 students were selected on the basis of screening test questions; they were divided into three teams with 4 members allotted in each team.
Name of teams:
The names of the respective 3 teams were as follows:
Team 1- Antony Van Leeuwenhoek
Team 2- Robert Koch
Team 3- Louis Pasteur
Total Rounds and Scoring Breakdown:
In all three rounds were conducted in this Science Quiz and Puzzle Challenge competition
 General Round : Two questions per team ( 2 marks each) – Total: 4 marks
 Rapid Fire Round : Five questions per team ( 2 marks each) – Total : 10 marks
 Puzzle Round : Three questions per team (3 marks each) –Total : 6 marks
 Grand Total : 20 marks
Out of 3 teams one winner team and one runner up team were selected.
Evaluation and Judges:
The competition was judged by highly respected academicians:
Dr. Pankaj P Khirade, expert in physics who brought valuable insights into the scientific aspects of mechanics, optics, thermodynamics and nuclear physics. The judge commended the participants for their dedication, depth of research, and innovative ideas.
• Awards and Recognition:
The competition concluded with the announcement of winners. First winner of the competition was Antony Van Leeuwenhoek team followed by the runner up team Robert Koch team. The judges evaluated the response of teams based on criteria such as originality, scientific merit, clarity, and relevance to the theme. The top winners and participants were awarded with certificates of excellence and calendar showing activity taken under DBT Star College Project and P.M. Usha as recognition of their outstanding efforts.
The Department of Microbiology extends its heartfelt gratitude to the participants, judges, and organizers for making the event a success. Special thanks go to Dr. Pankaj P Khirade for his insightful evaluations and encouragement to the students and Head of the department Dr. R. C. Maggirwar for her continuous support and motivation. The teaching staff Prof. Suwarna S Mankar, Dr. Rasika Jane, Dr. Sampada Dongre, Dr. Ashruta Gawali and Ms. Soniya Khandare played a pivotal role in the success of the Science Quiz and Puzzle Challenge competition based on the theme “Scientific achievement of India and the world” Their contributions began with planning and organizing the event, ensuring smooth coordination with participating students.
The Science Quiz and Puzzle Challenge on eve on National Science Day based on the theme was “Scientific achievement of India and the world” a resounding success. It not only provided a platform to showcase knowledge and gain a sense of accomplishment from performing well. Essentially, a quiz competition can assess knowledge levels, motivate further learning, and develop important cognitive abilities through a fun and competitive format. The event inspired participants to improving critical thinking, problem-solving, quick recall, and analytical abilities through the pressure of answering questions under time constraints and contributing in the development of nation by providing scientific future careers. The Biotechnology Department successfully organized the Science Quiz & Puzzle Challenge on 28th February 2025 on the occasion of National Science Day for B.Sc. 1st Year Biotechnology students. The event, held from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Biotechnology Laboratory under the DBT Initiative, provided an engaging platform for students to test their scientific knowledge.
The competition, themed "Scientific Achievements of India and the World," featured 12 students selected through a lucky draw, forming three teams of three members each named as Nucleus, Ribosome and Mitochondria. The event comprised quiz rounds and puzzle-solving challenges that assessed participants' knowledge of significant scientific discoveries and contributions. The competition witnessed an enthusiastic response, with students actively participating and showcasing their understanding of science. After intense rounds of questioning and problem-solving, the winning team was awarded prizes, recognizing their exceptional performance. The Team No-2 (Ribosome) was declared as the winner team and Team N0-3 (Mitochondria) was declared as the runner up team.
The Department of Biotechnology extends its heartfelt gratitude to the participants, judges, and organizers for making the event a success. Special thanks go to Dr. Ashruta A. Gawali for his insightful evaluations and encouragement to the students and Head of the department Dr. R. C. Maggirwar for her continuous support and motivation. The teaching staff Prof. Utkarsha S. Pete, Prof. Poornima Tayade played a pivotal role in the success of the Science Quiz and Puzzle Challenge competition based on the theme “Scientific achievement of India and the world” Their contributions began with planning and organizing the event, ensuring smooth coordination with participating students.
The event proved to be a stimulating experience, encouraging students to explore and appreciate the advancements in science. The Biotechnology Department played a crucial role in organizing and executing the competition successfully. The quiz competition held on [Date] at [Venue] was an engaging and intellectually stimulating event, bringing together students from various departments to compete in a friendly yet challenging environment. The competition aimed to foster learning, critical thinking, and teamwork among participants. The quiz consisted of multiple rounds, including general knowledge, science, history, literature, and current affairs. Each round was designed to test the participants' depth of knowledge and ability to think on their feet.

Teams of four students each competed against one another, answering a series of questions ranging from easy to highly challenging. The event was conducted in a fast-paced format, with participants buzzing in to answer as quickly as possible. The atmosphere was lively, with spectators cheering on their favorite teams.

The competition was judged by a panel of experts who ensured the accuracy of answers and fairness of the event. After an intense battle of wits, the team from [Winning Department/Team] emerged victorious, securing first place. Prizes, including trophies and certificates, were awarded to the top teams, while all participants received acknowledgment for their enthusiasm and participation.

Overall, the quiz competition was a great success, providing an opportunity for students to showcase their knowledge and engage in a healthy academic challenge.
