Activity Report:

On the occasion of World Ozone Day 2024, Dept. of Environmental Science organized Wall magazine / poster competition for high school and college students. The aims of the activity were to raise awareness among students about the importance of protecting the ozone layer, about ozone depleting substances (ODS), role of individuals in conservation of the ozone layer & sensitize students about the issue. The activity also aimed to engage young minds in environmental issues and encourage creative expressions of their understanding of ozone depletion and its impact on the planet. The activity was conducted on 26th Sept.2024 in the U.G. Lab of Department of Environmental Science.
To spread the message of the competition, flyer was prepared. Theme of the ozone day for 2024 was decided to be the theme of the competition. Theme for the ozone day of 2024 was “Montreal Protocol Advancing Climate action”. To make the theme easy subthemes were also given in the flyer. Sub themes given for the competition were – 1. Importance of the ozone layer. 2. Causes and consequences of ozone depletion. 3. Sustainable solutions to protect the ozone layer. 4. Role of individuals, industries and governments in ozone protection. Along with these themes students were also allowed to prepare poster/ wall magazine with the theme what they think appropriate related to ozone. The last date of the competition was given in the flyer. The previous day of the activity i.e. 25th Oct.2024was given as the last date for the submission of the poster/wall magazine.
For the promotion of the competition in the college, flyer having text message including the title of the activity, date of the activity, time of the activity, last date of submitting the posters, some requirements for the activity, guideline about how to prepare impressive & impactful posters / wall magazine etc. was sent on college student’s what’s app group &were encouraged to submit their posters. The flyer was also sent to Guardian Teacher’s group of the college with request to sent it to their respective G. T. group of the students. For the promotion of competition in schools, flyer with text message was sent on teachers personal what’s app number. H.M. & corresponding teacher of the school were personally contacted on mobile to convey the activity. During their meeting hard copy of the flyer was also given to them.
For the judging of the posters invitation letters were sent to Dr. Aruna Kakde (Gawai), Principal, Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul kalam College of U.G. & P.G., Amravati and Dr. Srikant Warhekar, Dept. of Environmental Science, Smt. Narsamha Arts, Commerce & Sci. College,Amravati.
28 students from college participated in the competition.
When students arrived and occupied their respective place in the EVS Lab, evaluation of the posters were done by the respective judges. For the assessment of the posters, hard copy of evaluation sheet was provided to both the judges. Each poster was evaluated according to the criteria given in the evaluation sheet & was given marks out of 25. The different headings to which the marks attoted in the evaluation sheet were 1. Content 2. Theme 3. Presentation 4. Message & 5. Question/Answers. Each of these headings were allotted 5 marks.
Each Poster was evaluated separately by both the judges. While evaluating the posters, after the presentation of students, the judges asked various questions on the theme of the poster. Each poster was assessed according criteria provided i.e. what content student shown in the poster, theme of the poster, presentation style of the student, impact of the poster through message, answers given for the questions asked . After evaluation by both the judges, marks given to each poster were compared and after a thorough discussion, 3 best posters which scored highest marks were selected for 1st, 2nd & 3rd prize.

After judging of the posters / wall magazine by the respective judges, formal inauguration of wall magazine / poster competition was done. at 2.30 p.m. by the hands of the respected principal of the college Dr. G. V. Korpe by cutting ribbon. At time of the inauguration, Dr. S. P. Ingole, Head, Dept. of Environmental Science & IQAC convener of the college and other faculty members of the Dept. Dr. K. J. Gawai , Mr. V. D. Bute & Dr. Manisha Jane were present along with judges.
After inauguration of the competition, while observing the posters principal sir asked many questions to the student participants such as what is current status of the ozone, how ozone is formed naturally in the atmosphere, what are the reasons for the depletion of ozone etc.
After inaugural of the competition, prize distribution ceremony was conducted. In this ceremony, first of all judges were welcome with the rose flowers. Then judges were asked to declare winners. One of the judges Dr. Aruna Kakde (Gawai) declared the 1st, 2nd & 3rd prize winners of the competition. She also expressed her remark that all the posters were good and that all students presented their poster nicely. She praised the 1st prize winner student for her inclusion of information about Montreal Protocol in her poster.

Following students were declared as winners:
1st Prize: Ms Kalyani Chawre
2nd Prize: Ms. Anisha Gomase
3rd Prize: Group – i.Apurva Mahalle, ii. Shrushti Ramteke & iii. Trupti Ingle

Prize winner students were felicited one by one with trophy and the certificate by the hands of Respected principal of the college and judges
After prize distribution, respected principal of the college Dr. G. V. Korpe addressed students. In his address, he praised the participated students for their creativity of the posters they made. He said that such activities are the need of the hour and urged students to work unitedly for better tomorrow. He added that the students from physical, mathematical & computer sciences should also be encouraged to participate in such activities of environmental importance. He advised to prepare & publish a booklet of the photos of the submitted posters of the students to encourage & aware other subject students, who were not participated, visited or present for the competition.
