- 1. Reduce mosquito larvae populations by 70-90% through guppy introduction.
- 2. Decrease mosquito-borne disease incidence by 50% in targeted areas.
- 3. Establish guppy populations in 80% of mosquito breeding sites.
- 4. Develop sustainable guppy-based mosquito control programs for urban and rural areas.
- 5. Educate communities on guppy-based mosquito control benefits and implementation.

Department of ZoologyShriShivaji Science College Amravati and Public Health DepartmentMunicipal Corporation AmravatiOrganized by “Mosquito Control Programme by Introducing Guppy Fish"13th August 2024. The main objective of this Workshop was tohow guppy fish can kill mosquitoes and reduce diseases.Dr.JayashreeDhote Head of Department of Zoology as the President of this program. Dr. Vishal Kale Health Officer Municipal Corporation Amravati as the chief guest Public Health Department Municipal Corporation Amravati as well as Dr.RupeshKhadse Mosquito Control Officer Municipal Corporation Amravati, Dr. Almas Khan Medical Officer, District Women's Hospital, Municipal Corporation, Amravati Labhale, as well as Zoology Department, DBT Star College Scheme Coordinator, Dr.GajananWagh introduced the programme.
Dr.RupeshKhadse, under his guidance, commented on how mosquitoes breed in the surrounding area and how guppy fish destroy mosquito worms. Dr. Vishal Kale gave information on diseases caused by mosquitoes and how they can be controlled by guppy flies. Also, Mr.Khandare, Mr.Niwane, Mrs.WankhadeArogyaSevak were present for this program. Haider Ali explained how male and female guppy fishes develop their eggs. Mr.Khandenzod, SamikshaJadhav and Asha Worker of Masanganj No. 2 were the participants. ShriShivaji Science College, Amravati Hon’blePrincipal Dr.GajananKorpe, Dr.Dinesh KhedkarCoordinator of DBT Star College Scheme of the college, Dr.JayshreeDhote, Dr.Vishal Kale, Dr.RupeshKhadse, Guppy fishes were released in the college tank by GajananWagh and the health officer in the presence of students. Conduction of the program and votes of thanks proposed byDr. Shubhangi Gawande. Also, in the departmentDr.GayatriHande, Dr.PriyankaRamteke, Dr.SujataKawade, Dr.AnuradhaRajoria, Swati Wankhade, DeepaliLadhe, VivekRane, SaketWankhade, DhanshreePakhan, TejormayiRothwal and non-teaching staff Mr.AbhijitSolanke, Mr.MangeshGavai, Mr.MangeshSolanke, Mr. Bharat Dabhadeprovided their valuable support and guidance.
Outcomes:
- 1. Mosquito larva reduction: Guppies feed on mosquito larvae, reducing population growth.
- 2. Decreased mosquito-borne disease transmission: By controlling mosquito populations, guppies help prevent diseases like malaria, dengue fever, and Zika virus.
- 3. Ecosystem balance: Guppies maintain aquatic balance, consuming excess nutrients and preventing algal blooms.
- 4. Low-cost and sustainable solution: Guppy-based mosquito control is an eco-friendly alternative to chemical pesticide.
- 5. To spread awareness regarding Mosquito borne disease transmission.
