NSD 2017 Report

National Science Day Celebrated in Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati.


In commemoration of the discovery of Raman Effect by Sir C. V. Raman the National Science Day under the theme "Science and Technology for specially abled persons" was celebrated in Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati on 27th and 28th February 2017. and a Bhumipoojan Samarambha of Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Memorial Science Centre on 1st March 2017.


The common inauguration program of the celebration was held on 27th February at 10.30 a.m. On this occasion Dr. V.S. Deogaonkar, Farmer Head, Department of Physics, Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati was the chief guest and Dr. V. G. Thakare presides over the function in the presence of IQAC coordinator Dr. H. S. Lunge and the NSD Convener Dr. Prashant Mandlik. The program was conducted by Miss Gargi Chaudhari. After the inaugural function, different activities were organized in various departments.


Scientific Film Show: It was organized by department of Botany on 27th February 2017 in the laboratory. 46 students were participated in the activity and they have watched two film stories of the earth and India’s Mars mission.


Intercollegiate seminar competition by department of Chemistry: This competition was organized by department of Chemistry on 27th February 2017 in A.V Theatre of the college for B.Sc II students on the topic solid state. 16 students from different colleges were participated in the competition. Dr. M. L. Narwade, Retired Professor, G.V.I.S.H., Amravati and Dr. V. M. Raut. Head Department of Chemistry, G.V.I.S.H. Amravati was acted as judges. At the end of the competition result was declared and prizes were given to the winners as -

Miss P. R. Rekhate(Second), Shri Shivaji Science College, Akot,
Miss V. N. Sharma (Third) R.L.T. Science College, Akola and
Miss Megha Kotak(Third),
The activity was coordinated by Dr. S. K. Rithe, Associated Professor with the help of all the staff members.


Competition on presentation and demonstration of Physics Experiments: This competition was organized by department of Physics on 27th February 2017 in collaboration with Amravati University Physics Teachers’ association, Amravati for B.Sc I, II and III students. Total 53 students from different colleges affiliated to S.G.B. A. U. Amravati were participated in the competition. The students explored and illustrated the inventive methods for understanding the principles of physics through simple, innovative and illustrative experiments. Dr. A. V. Kohale, R. R. Lahoti collge, Morshi, Dr. Vinod Kallyamwar Bhartiya Mahavidyalaya Amravati, Dr. Neeraj Sawala, PGTD, S.G.B.A.U., Amravati and Dr. P. R. Pande, G.V.I.S.H. Amravati worked as a jury members and evaluated the students performance in presentation and demonstration of the experiments, throughout the day. The event was well received from all the teachers and students. The event was supported and financed by Principal, Shri Shiovaji Science College, Amravati. Based on Jury’s evaluation following students bagged the prizes -

Second Prize: Miss Sghivani Dhoke & Miss Pratiksha Gawhale, Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati

Second Prize: Miss Priya Wankhade, R. L. T. College, Akola.

First prize: Miss Nikita Nagtode, Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati
Second Prize: Miss Prachi Deshpande, R. L. T. College, Akola



Intercollegiate seminar competition by department of Statistics: The inter collegiate seminar competition was organized on 27/03/2017 by the Statistics department on eve of National Science Day on the theme “Statistics in Science and Technology”. Ten Students from four colleges of SGB Amravati University area were participated in the competition. Fifteen minutes time were given to each presenter. All participants presented seminar through ppt using LCD projector. Dr. D. T. Deshmukh and Mrs. Vandana Vidhale worked as a judge. The three prizes first, second and third were announced by the department. First winner was Mr. Vishal Charthad of Shri Shivaji science College, Amravati, Second prize bagged by Ku Manushri Choudhary of Brijlal Biyani Science College, Amravati and Ku. Bhavana Laware of G. S. Science and Commerce College, Khamgaon received third prize. The outstation participants were given the travel allowance and working lunch was provided to all participants, judge, teachers and nonteaching staff.



Scientific Rangoli Competition: This competition was organized by department of Environmental Science on 27th & 28th Feb. 2017. The theme was Science & Technology through Rangoli. Total 23 students of the college were participated in the competition. Mrs. Manisha C Mohokar & Dr. Jayashree D. Dhote were judged the skill of the students. The rangoli show was inaugurated on 28th Feb. 2017 at the hands of Prof. V.G. Bhamburkar, Secretary, Shri Shivaji Education Society, Amravati and Principal Dr. V. G. Thakare, Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati in the presence of all heads of the departments.The competition was then opened for all the students.
First Prize: Ms. Gauri Shendre (M. Sc-I, EVS)
Second Prize: Ms. Monali Vighe
Third Prize: Ms. Vaishnavi Deshmukh and Ms. Anagha Ghurde .



Rock and mineral show: This show was organized by department of Geology on 27th & 28th Feb. 2017. The aim of the show is to expand the knowledge of rock and minerals available in India. Almost all the college students and the staff members visited to the show. The show was inaugurated at the hands of NSD Convener Dr. Prashant Mandlik in the gracious presence of IQAC Coordinator Dr. H. S. Lunge. The staff members and the students of the department were actively engaged in the show and they introduced each and every rock and the mineral to all the visitors.



Science books exhibition: The library organized two days book exhibition on 27th & 28th Feb. 2017. Of reference books available in the library. The librarian explained the importance of reference books during the study in different classes and their types to the visitors.
