Greeting from the Department of Chemistry Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati. Department of Chemistry is a largest department in the college and well recognized in Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University with 15 expertise teaching staff .Department of chemistry was established in 1958 by the visionary and foresighted founder President of Shivaji Education Society Hon’ble Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh . Whose dream to educate the youth from rural background is being fulfilled. From the beginning the whole hearted devotion and hard work of the faculty has laid down a strong foundation and the path for progress. Since its inception Department of Chemistry Indistinguishably contributed by the renowned faculty members under the leadership of Prof. D.M. Patki, Prof. V.K. Wasu, Dr. V.B. Kadu, Dr. A.W. Raut, Prof. Mrs. V.P. Deshmukh, Dr. V.G. Thakare, Dr. R.M. Kedar, and Dr. G.N. Chaudhari. In 1998 Post Graduate teaching department of chemistry was established with specialization in organic chemistry.

The research lab of the department has been recognized in 2000 by SGBAU Amravati, for Ph. D. and M. Phil with capacity of 30 research students. Chemistry department is the heart of the institute with 75% students opting Chemistry. Teachers are actively engaged in teaching, Administrative work of the college. The eleven professor in the department are actively working in research with interdisciplinary areas like Inorganic, Organic , Analytical, Physical Chemistry, Material Science and Nanotechnology through publications, Guiding the PG students, research students and operating the research projects funded by UGC, DST and MOSF. The goal of the department is to make learning easy and create interest in the students. Apart from the traditional teaching process our staff insist on use of modern teaching tools like OHP and LCD projector and Chem software. Students are encourage to make oral and power point presentation, gives seminar to enhance creativity, communication skill and confidence. Innovative teaching methodologies incorporated in the regular teaching program helps to develop and maintain students interest in chemistry like industry/ research lab visit, experiment demonstration, use of models, Quiz, Poster Presentation, Guest lecture. The department also offers skill base three years career oriented course in Cosmetology since 2006 and B.Voc in forensic science degree course from 2019. These skilled courses have also given employment to the college and external students .The government employs these students as Vocational Trainer in Beauty and wellness sector in Maharashtra Schools under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of “Vocationalisation of Higher Secondary Education Program” in alignment with NSQF(National Skill Qualification Framework) Appointment. The outcome is quite evident that most of our students are glowing in various field of the society like Educations, Administration and Public Sector .
